CL11 - Tutorial on the SQL Database, with PostgreSql

Course Description:

  • Introduction: What is PostgreSQL, why you should use it, and how to get it and install it. PostgreSQL and SQL92/99/03 spec compliance.
  • Basic relational theory, and how to normalize your data.
  • Basic SQL syntax, DDL (Data Description Language) and DML (Data Manipulation Language) This will be a large portion of the class.
  • Bulk loading data into the database.
  • The query planner.
  • Tuning the database engine for better performance.
  • Scheduling backups.
  • Q&A
  • Also OS/2 REXX hooks back into PostgreSql may be discussed.

Requirements: We recommend you download and install PostgreSQL for OS/2 and begin to get familiar with it.
